Fathers Day Funny.

Hey peeps. You've probably noticed that Twitter has taken over my blogging life. I just find it easier to throw up a 140 character update then to go on and on about the minutiae of my ridiculous existence.
I am having a riot though writing nonsensical things little bits a a time and I would encourage you to follow me at www.twitter.com/humhow. Oh the fun we'll have.
Having said that.
I'll be spending this weekend taping the 2nd season of ManUP and if you'd like to be part of the audience e-mail and I'll set you up with the details.
Also this weekend it's Tiger and the U.S. Open and Fathers day.
Here is a little FD funny that I found on the Utoob.
Enjoy.

The Spirited Chef

Yes another TV show.
I think I may have mentioned this a while back when we taped the 5 episodes but the show "The Spirited Chef" is now on the air. Wow, exciting.
My self and Chef Christopher Woods are cooking with booze and pairing the perfect wines, every Sunday night at 6:30.
I think you may enjoy this program....it's fun, informative, foodie and filled with good cooking tips and bits of booze.
Have a look at an episode or 2 right here and of course feel free to tell friends and family.
If you like you can watch the first episode right here.
Enjoy.

Pretty Frickin Clever...if you ask me.

I don't bloggy blog much anymore-if you hadn't noticed. I twitter a lot and you can follow those bonmots at twitter.com/humhow.
My pal Colleen Rushy sent this over to me and I found it a nice piece of marketing, all things considered.
Maybe you will too.

The Podcast of Memories is Finally here....

It was a Saturday in early May that Fred and I got together with some old friends, a few fans and a couple of people that had no idea why they were there-pretty much the same formula for success we've always had- and put on a little show.
The podcast is finally up and we hope you enjoy it. We certainly had fun getting together performing it.
Click on the player above to partake in the ribald hilarity that is the H+F experience.
Encourage your friends to do the same.
Why did we do it?

The answer is in an old story my brother David told me.
PT Barnum approached a young man who's job in the circus was to walk behind the elephants and sweep up the shit. The young man was bright, educated and seemingly had all kind of skills beyond his current job.
Barnum asked the shit-sweeper why he did this gig when he was obviously qualified for other work and the young man answered, "What and leave show-business?"

Thanks to Dan Duran for all his work and editing and producing and Dan Duraning.
Thanks to Mike Boon for all his promo and encouragement.
Thanks to Ric Randmaa for his videoing and band-width sharing.
And thanks to Fred for still wanting to walk with me behind the elephant from time to time.

Some Old-School YouTubery..

Back in the day, that day being a Wednesday(...if you're a Dane Cook Fan you'll get that DC reference. Btw saw the show Friday night and it was PFG-pretty f-in good.)...anyway Back in the day when I wrote this blog on a regular basis, one of the things I enjoyed was something called OPC or Other Peoples Content.
It was great to interact and receive material from Hhdotcom peeps and it gave me less to do so that I could get my drink on even earlier.
One of my main contributors was a dude who called himself Mike Farkas. At least I think that was his name. Could have been his cool 'internet' alias, but nevertheless he always gave me great stuff.
Recently he sent me this and I've decided to get off my lazy ass and cut and paste it here for your enjoyment.
So enjoy.

The Podcast of Memories couldn't have been better.

Except if we'd have taken a group picture.
Dang it all. Yes I said "dang!" We had all of H+F pals and former work-mates and we didn't' get that great group shot that says, " Hey we were all here with these two old guys who we use to work with..."
Other than that it was pretty cool as you'll hear in the next few weeks when the actual Podcast goes up.
I admit that I was curious as to how it would all go and how we'd fill the time but it was a breeze.
Freddy and I fell into the old rhythm as though we'd been doing it forever, which of course we had. It was funny and at times poignant(Scary Pete's song) and bitter sweet. It made us both realize that doing that silly old show was one of the great experiences of our lives and it all went by too quickly and maybe we didn't appreciate it when we were doing it every day.
There was so much that I could relate but It'll make more sense when you hear it.
In no particular order here are some random thoughts.
-Dan Duran is one funny bastard and I'd forgotten how funny the "Tote Bag" bit was.
-Fred and I can still make each other laugh.
-All the guys that showed up Andy, Pete, Shwarma, Bingo, Lil Spanky, Nicki, Nick and Tyler really made this thing work.
-Boon is an official member of the H+F family.
-Seeing our kids and families watching us do the show made me nostalgic for the H+F Christmas shows at the Horseshoe.
-My soccer Dad buddies showed up and I'm glad they got to sample the Old Show.
-One of my current Radio Partners (I have 19) Colleen Rusholme was there and all my soccer Dad buddies thought she was hot. They are right. She's also a good shit and I was thrilled to have her in the crowd witnessing the nonsense.
-One of my best mates Lou Schizas showed support as always and told a great tale.
-My boss and friends from ACME pictures hung out and Ric R even videoed it for a companion to the Podcast. My freind Kelly E can really really drink.

All in all I loved it and was sad when it ended. FP can still bring it and it just seems a shame that we may never be able to assemble that feeling again.
No I don't know why we're not on the Radio somewhere, but sometime in the next few weeks the H+F Podcast of Memories will be availble for you to listen to and reminisce with.
I don't think you'll be disappointed.

Here's a bit of the fun with me and FP and Lil Spanky.

Here's Boons thoughts.

Podcast of Memories in just 6 sleeps....

Mike Boon will be publishing a little Q+A on his wildly popular blog/twitter/whatever 'feast of the senses' on Monday. He sent me an intrusive list of questions that I tried to answer honestly and somewhat wittily (with mixed results of both clarity and comedy) and you can read all about it when it goes live on Boons Blog.
In the meantime his inquisition got me thinking about a few H+F nuggets and if time permits this week I'll expand on a memory or two that may be of some slight interest to friends/fans of the old show.

Fred touched me with his Dink. No I'm not kidding.
Not sure if this will make it onto the Podcast or if Fred related this story to Mike(as he was asked a similar list of soft-ball ???'s) but it was in the early days of our show and the legend goes like this:

Fred and I knew we were on to something in the first few years on the air because we cracked each other up so much. And not just Radio funny like you hear on a lot of the shows but some really funny/comedic moments and at times some hysterical stuff that got both of us laughing so hard we couldn't speak.

This was exciting stuff. Very often we would do things off the air just to get a reaction out of the other guy and then we'd push it further and then we'd mock each other on the air about the stupid thing we did off the air. With me so far? BTW. Our bosses hated this. They thought our show was too "inside" and that we weren't including the listener. Which was of course bullshit because H+F people listened for that very reason, they felt like they were in on the joke and that's what made it special. Our bosses never understood this because they weren't in on the joke, ironically enough. It's what made Howard Stern so successful. He created a world unto himself with a cast of characters and unique characteristics and then spent an inordinate amount of time talking about it and themselves.
Anyway back to Fred's Wang.

One day early on we were having a particularly giddy show where lots of funny/goofy/infantile stuff was going in the studio and on the air and Fred, in a fit of childishness, took out his dinky and a)shook it at me b)touched me on the arm with it.
Why you ask?
Who can really say.
To get my reaction.
To make me laugh.
To see if I would vomit.
All of the above.
For the record my reaction was a mixed bag. I laughed till I puked.
The point being that we were both so into this new show and it's new, often bizarre sense of humor, that on this particular day Fred felt the need to shake his thing at me and slap it against my arm.
I wonder if Roger ever did that to Marylin?

H+F Podcast now just 2.5 weeks away...

Only 19 more sleeps!
Yes hhdotcom peeps the big show is now being planned and sorted and who knows, by May 2nd we may even have a clue as to what we're going to do.
But I doubt it.
The banner at the top say it all...the Podcast of Memories is a go and we'd love to have you drop by for a beer and witness the show in person. Of course the place only holds 90 people so get there early to avoid disappointment. (Of course once you're there we can't guarantee you won't be disappointed as well but that's the nature of the H+F brand!)
Freddy wrote a nice thing yesterday that explains what we're up to so have a look.
I'd just like to let you know that since that was penned I've spoken to Nick Kypreos a long-time Humble and Fred regular, and he's agreed to appear for old times sake. Wow, a real live celebrity guest!
We'll have all sorts of friend and nonsense and it'd be great to have you join us.

Why do I want Tiger to win????

It's sometimes hard for me to articulate. Trust me, I've tried.
-He's the best that's ever played the game and I get to be alive while it's actually happening...
-I've been a golf fan since I was a kid and for the first time a Golfer is the most dominant athlete on the planet.
-He's so excellent at the game and such an enigma away from it that all you have to concentrate on his is ability as opposed to his "real life" which most of us don't know much about.
Actually all of the above.
I came across this article from a dude named Chris Ballard at SI and it goes along way towards explaining my/our fascination with TW.

Fans will never know Tiger Woods, that's why watching him is fun

When the Masters begins this week, we know what to expect from Tiger Woods -- the person, that is, not the golfer. He will be polite but not forthcoming, pleasant but elusive. Tiger does not Twitter or Dance with Stars or pose, brooding and shirtless, for fashion magazines. He declines nearly all media requests and named his $20 million yacht Privacy; you even need a password to read the infrequent, mundane posts on his website.

Why? Lore has it that ever since a 1997 GQ story portrayed him as being just like any other college kid, he has retreated into his shell (super-lightweight titanium, now available from Nike). And many have bemoaned this. They want to really know Tiger, to understand what makes him tick. If only he showed his human side more often, these people say, we could truly embrace him.

But I for one don't want to embrace him. Rather, I think Tiger's aloofness is precisely why he is so much fun to watch. Because we get so little from Woods, we can focus solely on his performance. I don't want Tiger to drain a huge putt and then, 30 minutes later, send out a tweet saying: OMG, WAS SOOOO NERVOUS ON THAT ONE!!! Instead, give me Tiger in the moment, cursing at his clubs, roaring in triumph or sulking like a man who cannot, will not, abide imperfection. Softer side? I like to imagine there is no softer side to Woods, that he becomes incensed at the washing machine if it doesn't properly whiten his T's, that he exchanges overexuberant high-fives with his wife after conquering the lawn with his push mower. (C'mon, Tiger would never use a riding mower.)

Think about it. When we talk about Alex Rodriguez or Terrell Owens, we talk about a lot more than baseball or football, and that's our loss. But when we talk about Tiger, we talk about golf. Will he break Nicklaus's record? Has he remade his swing? If you had straight-up odds before a tournament, would you choose Tiger or the rest of the field? (Seriously, you're taking the field?)

He's almost like an old-time movie star, one we see only in character. Even his ads stay on message. Rather than Tiger at home, goofing with the family, we see Tiger the Competitor, nailing a 50-foot chip shot, or Tiger the Sports Messiah, walking on water. It only increases the distance between him and us. Hell, his mystique is such that during the AT&T National in 2007, he sparked a round of applause when he stepped out of a portable toilet on the course, as if he'd just peed excellence.

Sure there is a trade-off. Word is that Woods is actually a pretty funny guy among friends -- when his buddy Charles Barkley went to prison for three days, Tiger sent him soap-on-a-rope. But if forgoing the personal details means we can also forgo the rest of the dreck that comes with an athlete's overexposure, then it's worth it. I used to respect Jason Taylor. Now all I can think about is the damn cha-cha.

Tiger remains first and foremost a competitor. A month ago, when he returned from knee surgery to play in the Accenture Match Play tournament, I watched as most of the Houston Rockets gathered around a small ceiling-mounted TV after practice to watch, gazing up as if Woods were Neil Armstrong. "I want Tiger to win every single time he plays," forward Shane Battier said. "But I don't want it to be easy. I want him to be pressed. I want it to come down to the end every time." Asked why, Battier said solemnly, "Because we've never seen another competitor like him, other than Michael Jordan. He never misses a putt that counts. Never."

Of course this isn't true, but it feels that way, doesn't it? And whereas MJ played a team sport, in which chemistry is paramount -- meaning he had no choice but to relate to people -- Woods doesn't, and so ... he doesn't. Think this doesn't give him an advantage over his competitors? Who are you going to fear more: the affable, talented golfer who is everybody's pal, or the aloof one who can seem like a golf cyborg -- the Birdienator 2000? (What's more, on the occasions that Tiger does become emotional, like after sinking a ridiculous putt or when he hugged his father after winning his first Masters, it is all the more powerful.)

Take it from a man well-versed in the psyche of the killer competitor: Jordan's longtime agent, David Falk. "Fans get what I call functional fixity," says Falk. "They assume a player is the same way outside his sport as when playing. Tiger's a private guy, but who cares? His whole essence is to eclipse Nicklaus and win majors. It's the only reason he plays."

And, if you ask me, it's the only reason we need to watch.

And if you ask me, I'd say the same.

Of Course I'm going to say something about Tiger!

You've got to be kidding me.
TW won with a 16 foot "must have" putt on the last hole of the tournament to win by one.
Oh really, that doesn't sound too familiar.
I have to admit I haven't watched a lot of golf coverage in 09. Yes I'm really more interested when Tiger's in the mix but I also like watching Weir when he's playing well and Tournaments that matter and so far there hasn't been much of either this year.
Until yesterday.
Tiger has entered 3 tournaments since his wonkey knee got fixed and it's pretty clear he can still play a bit.
I'm including a little video recap of yesterday's coverage in case you didn't get a chance to see it. It's pretty much the same old thing though.
Tiger gets in contention playing semi-crappy.
Tiger plays in final round with leader.
Leader shits the bed.
Tiger sinks putt in the dark to win.
Enjoy.
BTW. I can't wait for the Masters!

If there was any doubt...

....that Americans are mostly* stupid, this should finally erase it.
I can't believe there are A) People this fucking stupid with TV jobs and B) People fucking stupid enough to watch and believe this stuff.
Sorry for the F-bombs but I'm really pissed off and I can't get over how ridiculous this little segment on Fox news was.
Not to mention how disrespectful and uninformed it proves the average American is. And by average I mean way below average/Douch-Nozzle.

We've had far too many Canadian soldiers die in Afghanistan for these ass-holes to be so idiotic and cavalier in relation to our military and it's commitment and sacrifice.
So watch it and just try and not get steamed.
(* ...of course when I say mostly stupid I don't mean Jon May and Buffalo Mike and other very not stupid Americans...)

The Humble and Fred 20th Anniversary Podcast of Memoires...

Or some such drivel.
FP and I had a long, fruit-laden breakfast Sunday and threw around some ideas for something we've been thinking of doing for some time.
I don't want to give too much away because we want to make a big announcement on April 1st but Mike Boon has already leaded a bit of the info so have a look and then pencil in the dates.
Hope to see you there.
